Con una prevalencia mundial del 15.5% al 46.5% en adultos, la resistencia a la insulina se produce cuando las células de los músculos, grasa e hígado no responden bien a la insulina y no pueden absorber la glucosa de la sangre fácilmente.
En el marco del SOP Day 2024, evento médico-científico para más de 3,000 profesionales de la salud organizado por Exeltis y la Asociación Mexicana de Medicina Reproductiva (AMMR), especialistas destacaron que resistencia a la insulina es un factor clave en el Síndrome de Ovario Poliquístico, asociado al impacto de los desórdenes metabólicos y reproductivos presentes en las mujeres.
La resistencia a la insulina aumenta el riesgo de desarrollar Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 y síndrome metabólico e incluso afectar la fertilidad, expuso el Dr. Armando Roque.
El Síndrome de Ovario Poliquístico (SOP) es un trastorno endócrino que afecta entre el 6% al 20% de las mujeres en edad reproductiva. En México el 70% de las mujeres con SOP que cursan con sobrepeso u obesidad presentan resistencia a la insulina y esto incrementa en un 27% el riesgo de Diabetes Gestacional.
De acuerdo con la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) el 70% de las mujeres en el mundo con SOP no son diagnosticadas.
Comprometidos con el bienestar de la población mexicana y la educación médica continua, Exeltis y la AMMR han organizado el SOP Day por 6 años consecutivos buscando difundir y mantener actualizados a los profesionales de la salud sobre la prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de la resistencia a la insulina y sus consecuencias a lo largo de la vida.
Uno de los puntos relevantes presentados en el SOP Day abordó que el myo-inositol es una de las opciones terapéuticas que puede favorecer el abordaje de la resistencia a la insulina. Los expertos brindaron evidencia sobre los beneficios de la combinación de myo-inositol con algunos otros componentes, por ejemplo, alfa-lactoalbúmina y L-Metilfolato en el manejo de resistencia a la insulina relacionada al SOP y otras enfermedades metabólicas, explicó el Dr. Alfonso Moguel, Director Médico de Exeltis.
Existen en el mercado productos en cápsulas de gelatina blanda que favorecen una mejor absorción de myo-inositol en el organismo.
Si bien una dieta baja en calorías y la actividad física son elementos clave para la prevención y tratamiento de la resistencia a la insulina y sus secuelas, la incorporación de alternativas como el myo-inositol, fortalecerá la reducción de la glucosa independientes del peso, retrasando la progresión de la diabetes mellitus y otros trastornos metabólicos, hormonales y reproductivos, concluyó el Director Médico de Exeltis.
En el manejo de la resistencia a la insulina la selección del tratamiento debe ser individualizada, abordando los síntomas específicos de cada paciente con el objetivo de mejorar su calidad de vida.
