La aclamada actriz sudafricana Connie Chiume, conocida por su papel en la película de Marvel ‘Black Panther’, falleció este martes a los 72 años en un hospital de Johannesburgo. La noticia fue confirmada por su familia a través de un comunicado en su cuenta de Instagram.
Chiume, hija de padre malauí y madre sudafricana, tuvo una destacada trayectoria en cine y televisión, interpretando diversos personajes en populares series sudafricanas y películas internacionales. Su papel como líder de una de las tribus en ‘Black Panther’ (2018) y su secuela (2022) la catapultó a la fama mundial.
La actriz también participó en el filme musical ‘Black is King’ (2020), dirigido por Beyoncé. A lo largo de su carrera, recibió numerosos reconocimientos, incluyendo varios Premios de Cine y Televisión de Sudáfrica (SAFTA).
Su hijo, Nongelo Chiume, reveló que su madre había sido hospitalizada para un procedimiento médico y parecía estar recuperándose bien antes de su repentino fallecimiento.
El Gobierno de Sudáfrica lamentó la pérdida de la “legendaria” actriz, destacando su excelente trabajo y legado en la industria del entretenimiento.
